Description

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) require Modular external data centre to house six 48U cabinets including power (A&B boards), N+1 AC, energy efficient UPS (N+1, 20 min @ 30 kVA), IG55 fire suppression, cold aisle containment, environmental monitoring (Jacarta), vertical PDUs, raised floor, LPS 1175 SR2 shell. BCUHB is committed to delivering resilient and secure digital infrastructure, recognising that modern modular data centres are essential to maintaining continuity of clinical services. The Health Board seeks to appoint a contractor for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of modular data centres in line with BCUHB performance and technical specifications. This will also help BCUHB support organisational objectives around Net Zero, digital resilience, and resource efficiency. The planned approach integrates environmental, economic and social considerations - ensuring the new data centres contributes to wider sustainability, ICT strategy, and estate‑modernisation goals across the organisation. The contractor will provide a complete design-and-build solution, including detailed design, off site manufacture, delivery, installation, integration, and commissioning of all critical systems. This includes electrical distribution (LV, UPS, batteries, standby generation), mechanical cooling plant, fire detection and suppression, physical security, structured cabling, racks, containment, and environmental/monitoring systems. Designs must deliver the required capacity, resilience (e.g., N+1 or 2N), energy efficiency, and scalability. All works must comply with relevant standards, including CDM 2015, Building Regulations, BS 7671, BS EN 50600 (Data Centre Infrastructure), BS 5839 1, BS EN 15004, and NHS Wales digital and estates requirements. The contractor must provide design documentation, load/capacity calculations, testing plans, and full commissioning results, along with as built information and training at handover. The selected contractor must demonstrate proven experience in modular data centre delivery, appropriate technical qualifications, and the ability to work safely within live healthcare environments. The primary objective is to deliver a compliant, resilient, and future proof modular data centre solution that supports critical NHS digital services and operational continuity.
