Description

Develop an NDE device for helmets and rigid armour that will be able to detect damage using a remote handheld device to wirelessly inspect equipment in the field. The Acousto-Ultrasonics system shall provide a mechanism to compare received waveforms with a baseline (undamaged) signal, to provide experimental data that will be used in quantifying impact damage. The system shall be integratable to representative helmets and rigid body armours. Helmets will require 5 sensors per helmet, armour plates will require 4 sensors per plate. Faulty sensors shall be easily detectable and a suitable workaround shall be provided. The work shall be undertaken in accordance with the SBRI application 59640-446180 submitted and held by Innovate UK for the Non-Destructive Evaluation programme.
