Description
The River Kent is designated a Special Area of Conservation of international importance because it supports the following habitats and species which are rare or threatened in Europe: - White-clawed (or Atlantic stream) crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes) - Bullhead (Cottus gobio) - Rivers with floating vegetation often dominated by water-crowfoot (water courses of plain to montane levels with Ranunculion fluitantis and Callitricho-Batrachion vegetation) - Freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera) in one of the upper tributaries
