Description

Traffic on the Kent highway network is managed using traffic signals to optimise the efficiency of many major junctions. Sites are often linked to provide wide co-ordination using a dynamic control system reacting to vehicle flows. KCC have used an Urban Traffic Control (UTC) System since 1980 which uses the adaptive traffic control algorithm SCOOT. The tender is for the supply of a new system including the provision of maintenance and support starting 1st April 2018: • Due to technical communication constraints we will seek to procure a locally hosted system at Aylesford. • The contract term will be an initial six year term with two possible extensions of a further two years each, to a maximum of ten years. • As the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) industry is embracing modern communications technology, we will use this as a springboard to migrate to a modern system, update and standardise communications and look to embrace cloud offerings further into this contract when the infrastructure is more stable and proven.
