Description
The proposed work builds on successful cutting edge method development work previously commissioned by Defra at FERA in response to the 2013 Horsemeat Incident. This work developed methods to determine the species origin of gelatine and also to detect meat species in highly processed foodstuffs. This new project will scope up the further development and validation work required to ensure these methods are fit for purpose to check for food mis-labelling; to verify food law enforcement (in a court of law) and for industry use to detect food fraud.
