Department For Transport MEPLAN Wider License Agreement

The Department’s National Transport Model (NTM) provides national-level traffic forecasts and evidence underpinning critical decisions at DfT, and as such its results are subject to increasing interest and scrutiny by external stakeholders including academics and lobby groups. This purchase of the Wider Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) License for the MEPLAN software package, is part of a larger research programme to improve the NTM to meet current needs, including greater geographic detail for Roads analysis and a higher standard of quality control as part of the NTM Next Generation programme. This purchase will enable us to read and update the software code used in NTM and remove the main commercial barrier for sharing NTM by giving us the rights to sub-licence MEPLAN software to external organisations.
