Description

The Holmfirth Town Centre Action Plan (HTCAP) is part of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Corridor Improvement Programme (CIP). The HTCAP scheme will deliver a package of measures to address the causes of vehicle-based congestion in Holmfirth town centre, reducing congestion and improving reliability and journey times. This will be achieved by making proposed improvements to the traffic signals, pedestrian crossing arrangements and relocating on-street parking from conflict areas. At the same time, the scheme will support the proposed development sites allocated in the Local Plan. The proposals will also ease congestion in the town centre, as well as improving journey times, access, and safety for pedestrians and cyclists in the area. These proposals include demolishing the former market hall building and extending the adjacent Huddersfield Road car park. A summary of the works included on the HTCAP are shown below; • Widening the footpath on the northern and southern sides of Huddersfield Road to provide improvements for pedestrians. • Resurface the existing carriageway as detailed in the General Construction Plan • Providing new under-cover electric cycle stands and seating area. • Removing the existing bus stop shelter and replacing the bus stop pole at Huddersfield Road. • Providing alcoves under the ramp to accommodate wheelie bins • Providing split-level car park and event space • Signalise the existing pedestrian zebra crossing at Victoria Street and Town Gate. • The demolition of the Market Hall and incorporation of a footway link over the River Holme from Hollowgate to Huddersfield Road via a new, wider bridge • Reconfiguring the traffic signals on the A6024. • Improved, more expansive pedestrian areas with conservation materials. • Removing parking bays on Victoria Street to widen footpaths to create a loading bay and disabled parking.
