Description
The Fire Safety Act (FSA) will require responsible persons under the Fire Safety Order to review fire risk assessments on many residential buildings (a prioritisation tool will allow owners to divide stock between properties that require immediate action, action in the medium term and those that need not alter their cycle of updating risk-assessments). Regulations will be introduced later this year or early in 2022 implementing the recommendations of phase one of the Grenfell Tower inquiry LGA officers have worked with NFCC and civil servants to devise a document covering the principles of effective regulation of safety in high rise residential blocks under the Housing Act and FSO/FSA in the interim until the Building Safety Regulator is up and running (which should begin in 2024). The LGA is supporting this work by commissioning case studies highlighting the work of local authorities and fire services working together to address fire safety issues in these buildings since the Grenfell Fire.
