Description
The Greater Manchester Civic Leadership Youth Engagement Project aims to tackle the under representation of racially minoritised people in areas of civic and public life, by encouraging more young people from racially minoritised communities to become active in their community and aspire to be future civic leaders. Project Objectives • Racially minoritised young people are engaged in the core values of political education, participation and representation • The views of racially minoritised young people are recognised and valued by public sector policy and decision-makers, enabling young people to have greater influence over things that impact their lives • Future participation in civic leadership is encouraged, creating a pipeline for the Civic Leadership Core Programme • Whilst the Youth Outreach focuses on race, this will also broaden involvement across demographics, protected characteristics and background, recognising intersectionality and multiple disadvantages. This is the second year of the project, and we are seeking an exemption to enable us to recommission the current supplier In the first year, the supplier, Youth Leads UK, met the required deliverables 1. Working with a diverse range of racially minoritised young people from across Greater Manchester, explore the barriers and opportunities to community involvement and civic leadership 2. Support the young people to develop and produce an accessible and inclusive resource that can be used by young people, youth groups, schools and other youth services to effectively engage racially minoritised young people on the aim and objectives. 3. With the young people, launch and promote the resource and its key messages (this could include digital assets such as social media content and/or a stakeholder engagement event) However, the ambitious timescales initially proposed by GMCA have not been able to be comprehensively met 4. Support delivery of the resource across Greater Manchester, working with the young people and appropriate local providers to ensure reach into communities 5. Evaluate impact of the resource for young people and youth services.
