Description
Birmingham City Council (the "Council") is seeking to appoint an organisation for the provision of City Centre Infrastructure & Highway Works (Active Travel Connections to Interchange). The following outcomes are anticipated as a result of the proposed procurement process to be carried out: • To improve the overall quality of the active travel surfacing and infrastructure along New Street and upgrading the surrounding area (Temple Street, Lower Bennetts Hill, Ethel Street, Lower Temple Street, Eden Place, Chamberlain and Victoria Square Steps. The improvement of this public space will provide a new aesthetic for the city centre through its retail core, creating attractive spaces for residents, businesses and visitors. • To improve pedestrian and cyclist connectivity through the core of the city. This will provide safer and attractive connections to and from New Street Train Station to business and retail areas within the city. • To provide a safer pedestrianised streetscape within the city centre, while also improving the overall air quality by restricting vehicles within the area of New Street. The contract will commence July 2025 and will be in place for a period of approximately 48 months (unless terminated under agreement provisions).
