Description
The Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) is Britain's leading industrial health and safety facility. HSL supports HSE's mission to protect people's health and safety by ensuring risks in the changing workplace are properly controlled. BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT For the calibration/validation of air sampling methods, sampler devices, sensors and the production of laboratory proficiency test samples, HSL requires the ability to produce stable standard gas atmospheres for a range of inorganic and organic gases. OBJECTIVES HSL produces such stable standard gas atmospheres based upon procedures codified in the ISO 6145 series of standards. SPECIFICATION REQUIRED The requirements are for o System based on evaporation of a metered liquid standard to provide a stable gas concentration atmosphere (based in part upon procedures codified in ISO 6145 part 4) o Metered liquid delivery based either upon a liquid mass flow controller or syringe injection (Vendor to supply details of mass flow ranges available and tolerances) o Evaporation unit capable of heating to at least 150 °C. o 2 x digital Mass flow controllers or other metered flow system for delivery of carrier and diluent gases (Vendor to supply details of mass flow ranges available and tolerances) o Heated transfer line from evaporation chamber to exit (Vendor to supply details of achievable temperatures for evaporation chambers and associated transfer lines) o Flow path construction materials compatible with the use of organic solvents o Desirable - RS-485 communications module for optional remote PC control via HSL software written in Labview. Source code to be supplied. o Desirable -Humidity control module to produce a relative humidity range of 20 - 90 % (Vendor to supply details of achievable range, stability and set point resolution) o Desirable - Expandable modular system - e.g. extra gas metering capabilities for secondary dilution o Desirable - ability to generate standard gas atmospheres from inorganic liquids in particular mercuric chloride solution Installation, Commissioning and Training. Tender to include itemised delivery, installation, and commissioning costs for the HSL Buxton site and provision of on-site training of 3-4 staff in the use of the new system. Warranty. Customary warranty or extended warranty to be offered. HSL would like to a achieve 24 month warranty period as standard for the instrument. Other Services. We would also like to look at preventative maintenance and / or calibration services
