Description
The proposed works in this tender are for the removal of all infrastructure and equipment relating to the Digital Global Position System (DGPS) at Butt of Lewis Lighthouse. Butt of Lewis Lighthouse is situated on the most northerly point of mainland Lewis. The station was designed and built by David and Thomas Stevenson in 1862 and has a nominal range of 25 nautical miles. The red brick tower stands 37 metres high, although 52 metres above sea level. Latitude: 58o 31.0' N, Longitude: 06o 15.7' W. The work involved in this project shall be the removal of: •The lattice tower mast •The GRP buildings within the timber stockade fence. •The timber fence in front of the 2 GRP buildings. •The fuel Tank and yellow access platform on top of the engine room. The contractor must submit a works programme at tender stage with a start date on site of January 2024 and completion date no later than 31st March 2024. The submitted programme should therefore reflect the anticipated duration required to complete the works with specific account being taken for lead-in-times, delivery of materials, logistic arrangements, etc. A more detailed programme of work will be agreed between the Engineer and the appointed contractor. It is important that Tenderers or their representative(s) attend the site visit, any Tenderers submitting a tender that have not attended the site visit, will not be considered. Site visits will be conducted on 27 November 2023.
