Description
Health Education England completed a PIN (Prior Information Notice) with a view to completing a Direct Award to the Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED) at South London and Maudsley NHS Trust (SLAM) for the below services. MCCAED at SLAM is a unique provider of ARFID training, the training is delivered by Dr Rachel Bryant-Waugh who is the national clinical lead for the national CAMHS ARFID service at SLAM and specialist expert in the field. She was involved in developing the treatment pathway for ARFID (2016) which informs the training provided. Our needs from an HEE perspective, based on feedback from services is to provide foundation training in ARFID for children and young people to support a range of healthcare professionals, particularly supporting teams, which would cover didactic teaching and an element of group focussed learning. This needs to be expertly delivered, because NHSEI are bringing in a new clinical code in April 2022, which means that a healthcare professionals need a robust understanding of ARFID presentation in young people. Plus, we know that there has been a doubling in prevalence in eating disorders, including ARFID following the COVID national lockdowns, which means that we need the provider to deliver at pace to provide additional training
