Description
The Wantage Market Place Improvement Scheme is a major town centre improvement project led by Oxfordshire County Council. It aims to be a committed investment aimed at transforming a vehicle-dominated environment into a vibrant, accessible, and people-focused public space. The scheme is supported by approved funding, enabling feasibility design, community co-production, traffic modelling, and completion of preliminary design. The scheme aims to reduce traffic dominance, improve safety and accessibility, enhance air quality, and boost the local economy through better use of public realm. Aligned with the Local Transport and Connectivity Plan (LTCP), Vision Zero, and Wantage and Grove LCWIP, the project seeks to: • Reconfigure traffic flows, • Ensure people with accessibility needs can move through the space, • Introduce high-quality public realm improvements and landscaping, • Support sustainable transport and local economic vitality.
