Description
Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners is seeking to secure the services of a suitably qualified structural and civil engineering company to work with the architect and cost consultant to progress design of the New Strand workspace to RIBA Stage 5. The deadline for responses is: 13:00, Monday 3 September 2018. Newlyn is the largest fishing port in England by fleet and landings. It is located near Penzance in Mounts Bay, South West Cornwall. This Trust Port has a long term programme of development and expansion already underway. These plans address a longstanding shortage of good quality workspace in Newlyn, and quayside workspace in Cornwall, with the construction of industrial workshops, marine engineering infrastructure, food processing facilities and office space. This contract, along with Lot 1, relates to the "New Strand" project within this programme which is part of the regeneration of the centre of the harbour estate and town. The New Strand plans are for 2,160 m2 of new flexible workspace with some of this on an upper floor. The buildings will be formed using steel portal frames with lightweight cladding systems to fit with the existing vernacular of the harbour, maximise the flexibility of long term use and minimise build time and disruption to tenants. The current estimate for New Strand project, both building construction and piled foundations, is £3.1m. Note: A full design team (architect, cost consultant, M&E consultant) and a BREEAM Assessor for the workspace on New Strand is in the process of being procured separately to work alongside the design team to building certification stage. This contract will cover adjacent projects, Canner Slipway and Canner Car Park in addition to the New Strand. This project, along with the two others in the programme, Canner Slipway and Canner Car Park are being funded by the Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners, supported by a grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the ESIF Growth Programme for England 2014 to 2020 with the overall cost of all three elements of the scheme estimated at £6,146,308. The timelines for completion of the work are fairly challenging and we are looking for suppliers who can complete by mid October.
