Description
The City of London Corporation's (CoL) corporate headquarters are the North and West Wings of the Guildhall. The CoL is exploring two main options for the future of the buildings. Option 1 is the phased refurbishment of the buildings to extend their economic life for the next c.20 years. Option 2, would look to undertake major works to the newly Listed Grade II West Wing to create a building which accommodates Member and officer activities as well as potentially refurbishing the adjacent Grade II Listed 20 Aldermanbury for an appropriate corporate purpose. In Option 2 the North Wing would be surplus to requirements, enabling the North Wing (where a Certificate of Immunity Against Listing was recently achieved) to be demolished and replaced by a commercial building opportunity further north, defraying the cost of the West Wing works. It would also facilitate opening up a new public space to the rear of the Great Hall for the first time. The CoL at this point are looking to appoint for RIBA Stage 0 only with a further competition to the market for future stages.
