Description
The works comprise modifications to the A40 Longford Roundabout to increase capacity to provide mitigation for the developments allocated in the adopted Joint Core Strategy (JCS) for Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury and which have received planning permission on appeal. The works include the widening of the approaches and entry widths, reducing the entry path radius by enlarging the central island, and realigning the westbound exit. Earthworks are involved to form the widened approaches and the realigned westbound exit. Sections of retaining wall are proposed to support the embankment on the westbound approach, and the westbound exit. New areas of carriageway will be created, delineated by new kerbing and these areas will be drained by revised drainage arrangements, relying on existing points of discharge. New sections of fencing and safety barrier will be required, together with a revised scheme of road lighting and road markings. New road signs will be erected to complement the modified lane arrangements. It is anticipated that some service diversions will be required. A new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing is to be installed on the western arm to replace the existing informal crossing. Areas of redundant carriageway and footways will be broken up and a landscaping scheme will be implemented. Although the contract being procured is part funded by public funds, the procuring organisation is Robert Hitchins Limited and any resulting contract will be with Robert Hitchins Limited.
