Description
National Highways Connecting the Country vision is that the strategic road network (SRN) is part of a seamlessly integrated transport system that meets our customers' needs by connecting the country safely and reliably, delivering economic prosperity, social value, and a thriving economy. It brings together our existing strategies including Route strategies, Net zero highways, Digital roads and Customer service. Providing consistent signalling to customers is imperative to ensure customer service and deliver safety. This project will seek to provide enhanced customer service whilst maintaining safety risk as low as reasonably practicable. This is a vital part of the set of options to resolve the anomaly with HADECS and MIDAS systems. The scope is to investigate whether the minimum off time of speed signals on the strategic road network could be altered. The SRA will consider the possible new values that could be considered safe and preferably provide a "safe operating range" that the various systems can operate to (or can be reconfigured to operate to). The assessment will need to consider if there is a universal figure for all types of speed signal or if it varies dependent on the algorithm or the purpose of the speed limit displayed.
