Farm Business Survey

The Farm Business Survey is an annual survey collecting highly detailed financial and physical data from a representative stratified sample of 1750 farms from all farm types and regions in England. The survey has been running since 1936 and the data has always been collected by Universities and Colleges throughout England as an outsourced requirement. The FBS is an extremely valuable data source and was a key part in developing the new Agriculture Act to replace the Common Agriculture Policy on leaving the EU. The FBS continues to be drawn upon to monitor the impact of leaving the EU as well as numerous other policy decisions, including the Dairy Response Fund set up as part of the Covid-19 related support packages in 2020.
