Extra care housing is designed with the needs of people whose disabilities, frailty, vulnerability or health needs make ordinary housing unsuitable, but who do not need to or want to move to long term residential care. Older people make up the majority of tenants in WBC Extra care housing schemes although there are some vulnerable younger adults that benefit from living in the schemes.Extra care housing should provide a real alternative to a residential care home provision and or unsuitable housing and should be seen as a ‘home for life’.
