Description

The Provision of Urban Design Consultancy Services for the delivery of: West Somerset Design Guide and Major Developments Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). West Somerset Council (WSC) intends to commission an urban design consultant to finalise the preparation of a District wide Design Guide for West Somerset and for urban design masterplanning and design coding for major allocation sites at Minehead, Williton and Watchet to be known as the "West Somerset Design Guide and Major Developments SPD". The work is required to support WSC's role as the local planning authority, its purposes being to encourage a higher standard of design for development within the LPA area generally, and also to provide guidance for the masterplanning and design of the strategic development sites allocated in the adopted West Somerset Local Plan to 2032. Following the recent closure of the paper mill in Watchet it is considered opportune to include design guidance for the re-development of that site also. The SPD will facilitate effective design briefing and subsequently the negotiation of the design of development proposals as part of the development management process. The document must be prepared in accordance with the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012 as amended, insofar as they apply to the preparation of SPDs, and also in accordance with the Council's Statement of Community Involvement.
