Description
The aim of the service is to prevent child obesity in Hounslow in the 0-5 year old population. The objective of the service will be to provide educational sessions for parents and training on obesity prevention for staff in contact with the target group. The pilot will offer weekly drop in sessions to approximately 400 families in West, Central and East Hounslow, covering healthy eating and physical activity to support parents to make healthy choices for their child and family. The service will be evaluated to understand what works best in Hounslow in helping tackling childhood obesity in under 5s. Alongside the drop-in programme, key staff working with families 0-5 years will be trained in how to raise the issue of child weight, messages for healthy eating and promotion of physical activity for 0-5 year olds, understanding BMI - z scores, plotting height and weight charts in red books. This will ensure consistency of information and advice across the borough.
