Description
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has GB (i.e England, Scotland and Wales) statutory responsibility for testing gas and electricity meters when accuracy is disputed. These duties are described by section 17 of the Gas Act 1986 and Schedule 7 of the Electricity Act 1989. The services are presently undertaken under contract due to expire November 2019. Scope: Gas • Examination and certification of disputed domestic, commercial, and industrial gas meters • In-situ examination of industrial gas meters following minor repair by manufacturers and/or meter owners • Stamping of GB approved meters after refurb or repair Electricity • Examination and determination of disputed domestic, commercial, and industrial electricity meters • Type approval of new designs of industrial electricity meter outside the scope of the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) • Certification of GB approved meters after refurb or repair General • Consultancy support
