Description
Lancaster University wishes to purchase a Vertical Machining Centre. This document has been prepared to set-out the University’s requirements and enable potential Suppliers to submit accurate proposals. The Engineering Department has seen a rapid expansion both in terms of academic appointments and student numbers. This expansion has led to an increase in the demands on the mechanical workshop facilitiy. The department has recognised that the quantity and complexity of parts needing manufacturing will require investment in new machine tools to enhance the current capabilities. The purchase of a machine tool with the capability to provide 5 axis control is in line with this and will provide the department with a high quality machine to support both research and underdratuate project requests. It is anticipated that the operational life of the equipment will be 20 years. Delivery is required as soon as possible, final deadline is 22nd April 2016. This purchase supports the University’s objective to maintain its place as a world class research establishment.
