Description
This project aims to further develop a strategy by which the UK can implement a co-ordinated and sustained monitoring programme for Ocean acidification (OA) in the UK and UKOT (UK Overseas Territories) waters. Further, the project will enable UK scientists to continue to play an internationally recognised leadership role within the Global Ocean Acidification Observation Network (GOA-ON). In particular, by developing a working framework for the North East Atlantic regional hub. These activities will allow the UK to guide and influence the monitoring activities taking place in those areas that have a direct influence on the waters around the UK. This is especially pertinent given that on leaving the EU, after Brexit, the UK will need to demonstrate continued leadership in these international issues, and take ownership of monitoring of waters that are currently regulated under European policies and frameworks.
