Description
The University of Southampton requires a Digital High Resolution Microscope to be used within the Faculty of Environment & Life Sciences. The primary application of the equipment will be to use imaging to select, discriminate and facilitate the manual recovery of protein crystals, which will then be used for X-ray diffraction crystallography. The IMC already possesses multi-use transmitted light microscopes (e.g. digital stereomicroscopes); however, these do not provide the required resolution to correctly identify the crystals, and lack the on-board analysis and object discrimination functions required. Secondary to this, the microscope will be hosted in a multi-user environment that supports several faculties and external users including Engineering, Palaeontology, and Archaeology. The microscope should therefore have functionality that appeals to a wider user-base, such as topological specimen analysis and 3D imaging capability.
