Description
The Primary Care Psychological Therapies (PCPT) service will be a community based service, building firmly on the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme (http://www.iapt.nhs.uk/). It will offer a range of evidence based psychological interventions including NICE approved/recommended psychological therapies in line with relevant clinical guidance; associated with improved service user outcomes and recovery rates. The Primary Care Psychological Therapies service will deliver a Step 2, Step 3 and ‘Step 3 Plus’ model where time limited, psychological therapies is likely to have a positive outcome for the individual. The diagnostic groups likely to benefit from PCPT approaches include the following: Traditional IAPT services: • Depression (including antenatal and postnatal) • Generalised anxiety disorder • Mixed depression and anxiety • Panic disorder • Obsessive-compulsive disorder • Health anxiety (Hypochondriasis) • Post-traumatic stress disorder • Phobias (including social anxiety disorder & social phobias) IAPT ‘Plus’ services: Adjustment disorders Anger management Mild learning disability or cognitive impairment Personality disorder (not severe) Other comorbid mental health conditions (e.g. non-acute or stable psychosis) Eating disorders (mild-to-moderate) Depression or anxiety in adults with a chronic physical health problem (long term condition)or medically unexplained symptoms (Note: where anxiety or depression-related symptomatology is present and where PCPT services are likely to have a positive outcome for the patient)
