Description

The woodlands at Wapley Bushes Local Nature Reserve have been identified as being affected by Ash Dieback Disease. There is a separate file attached to this notice, which shows the scale of the affected areas and locations of the Ancient Woodland (C2) and the Centenary Wood (C3). Tenders are invited for two pieces of work, to be carried out from mid September to mid November 2020. Dodington Parish Council is inviting tender applications for either contract or for both. Tender applications should be made in writing or by email to Dodington Parish Council by midnight on 6th March 2020. CONTRACT 1 - TREE SURGERY • In the Ancient Woodland (C2) 19 mature ash trees around the perimeter paths have been marked up. To monolith these trees to 6 metres height and coronet cut, to chip smaller brash and leave the larger cut wood on site as habitat. • In the Centenary Wood (C3) approximately 50 semi-mature ash trees are situated within mixed species areas shown as shaded on the Centenary Wood survey plan attached. If possible to monolith these 50 trees to 6 metres height and coronet cut, to chip smaller brash and leaving the cut wood on site as habitat. If it is not practical to monolith these semi-mature trees (for example if they are not safe to climb), to fell these 50 ash trees, cutting the stumps as close as possible to the ground. To chip smaller brash and stack the larger cut wood on site as habitat. CONTRACT 2 - TREE CUTTING There are approximately 550 ash trees within the ash monoculture areas shown as unshaded on the Centenary Wood survey plan (please see separate file). As well as the basic project, separate prices/discounts should be quoted for the three options. • Basic price - To clear-fell approximately 550 ash trees, cutting the stumps as close as possible to the ground. To chip smaller brash and stack the larger cut wood on site as habitat. • Option A - to remove 500 of these trees from site and quote a discount for their value as firewood. The remaining 50 trees to be stacked on site for later use for forest skills purposes etc. • Option B - additional cost to stump grind all 550 tree stumps in the clear-felled area to ground level to reduce the hazards for people walking through. • Option C - additional cost per 100 tree stumps to stump grind to ground level in selected areas intended for future community use to reduce the hazards for people walking through. If Option C is selected there would be at least 100 trees to stump grind. Dodington Parish Council is inviting tender applications for either of the above contracts or for both. Tender applications should be made in writing or by email to Dodington Parish Council by midnight on 6th March 2020.
