Description
Belsay Awakes is a huge project and investment in the site involving specialist conservation, community involvement and exciting new additions for visitors to enjoy. The project will deliver restored planting in the formal gardens, to the design of internationally renowned garden and landscape designer Dan Pearson; vital conservation work to the roof of the hall, coach house and parts of the castle. The project is also delivering improved visitor facilities including a new café; site-wide interpretation scheme; woodland play-and-learn area and outdoor classroom; new education resources, apprenticeship and volunteering roles and opportunities to get local communities involved. As part of the wider project, the new interpretation scheme will include a series of interpretation graphic panels throughout the site; trails for plant enthusiasts and families and; a projected animation and soundscape in the castle. The scheme aims to promote exploration and discovery, through shared intergenerational experiences that engage visitors with the story of the site.
