Description
An inclusion support service is at the heart of a robust short breaks offer and forms a vital component in meeting Leeds City Council's (LCC) duty to provide short breaks as per the Children Act 1989. It is also a key driver in achieving the Council's ambition in being an inclusive, child friendly city for children and young people (CYP) with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The 'inclusion' remit is to break down barriers to inclusion and support disabled children and their families to live happy and fulfilling lives as equal members of their communities. An inclusion service should offer advice, support and challenge to activity settings to ensure groups are fully inclusive and able to offer equality of access to all children. This is a highly sustainable model, building capacity in universal settings to include disabled children, reducing the likelihood of crisis and family breakdown and thereby reducing the need for more expensive specialist provision or Social Work intervention
