Description
The Coroner is an independent judicial officer who has a legal duty to investigate and report on violent or unnatural deaths, sudden deaths of unknown cause and deaths in custody. The Coroners jurisdiction is South Yorkshire (East) which covers the boroughs of Doncaster and Rotherham. In order to achieve what the cause of death was and to allow the effective and efficient running of the Coroner's Court, the Coroner requires a good quality pathologist service. Although the Council does have in place a digital autopsy contract and an invasive autopsy contract, both these contracts are for adult autopsies only. A children's autopsy is a niche/bespoke market which is not offered at all hospitals.
