Description

The CVLP is a strategic priority and collaboration between NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), the Office for Life Sciences (OLS), the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) and Genomics England (GEL), with the aim to facilitate access to personalised cancer vaccine research trials. The project was jointly announced in July 2023 with the Secretary of State and in partnership with the Prime Minister. See link (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/major-agreement-to-deliver-new-cancer-vaccine-trials#:~:text=It will work by creating, become part of standard care) Through the CVLP platform, cancer patients from across a network of up to 140 NHS cancer care providers will be asked to consent to be put forward for clinical trials. Their surplus tissue samples, obtained through standard of care pathways, will be used to assess their eligibility. The detail of any available trials will be shared with the participant and their treating clinical team to see if the patient wishes to take part, and if so, the patient will travel to the nearest trial site to access the clinical trial. The CVLP is a feasibility study, facilitating access to personalised treatment cancer trials, for example cancer vaccines. Patients will be identified across a network of up to 140 NHS cancer care providers. Patients in the CVLP will be asked to consent for analysis of their tumour material, peripheral blood (if trial requires), and clinical data to establish whether they might be suitable for current or future cancer vaccine trials. The detail of any available trials will be shared with the participant and their treating clinical team, to see if they would consider taking part in the trial(s) for which they are eligible.
