Description
Birmingham has a particular set of circumstances that lead us to the desire to develop a new approach to working with our communities. There is a concern that infant mortality rates remain high and whereas in other areas this is beginning to change, this has not been the case across Birmingham. Pregnancies are not always planned and having relevant information and being healthy makes a difference to pregnancy outcomes. As part of shaping the approach to creating a positive discussion regarding the desire for pregnancy and preparation for pregnancy, Birmingham Public Health Division wants to commission an organisation to undertake Community Researcher Training. This training would be delivered with and for women within seldom heard target communities. It is expected that the training would enhance the skills and abilities of interested and engaged women, enabling them to further develop trusting relationships with women in their communities and undertake appropriate pregnancy discussions. It is expected that delivering this training, developing relationships and enabling community members to express their concerns and ideas around the topic of pregnancy through a two-way dialogue, will result in co-design of services to meet the needs of women within these communities. The training and any future conversations will help influence the development and ongoing delivery of an Infant Mortality Strategy for Birmingham which aims to reduce infant deaths across the City. We require a Provider to train women from targeted communities to: o Acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to undertake qualitative research i.e. Engaging and maintaining conversation on a chosen topic. o Enable and facilitate conversations with other women within their community o Be able to act as a link between BCC Commissioner and their community from which they live o Be able to act as a community resource, engaging with public services e.g. Council, NHS services, by sharing views of the community and facilitating a two-way conversation. The contract will run from February 2021 to 30th June 2021 and the provider will be required to have completed the training no later than the 30th June 2021. The Council will be using its free to use e-tendering system (in-tend) for the administration of this procurement process and potential suppliers must register with the system to be able to express an interest.
