Description
The A3 through Guildford has the worst annual average level of nitrogen dioxide emissions on a trunk road where human health is detrimentally affected in England, and the Secretary of State for the Environment has issued a legal directive to ensure this issue is addressed in the shortest time possible. Surrey County Council, in partnership with National Highways and Guildford Borough Council, is offering over a 2 year period 1,000 grants of up to £10,000 to businesses and charities whose commercial diesel vehicles use the A3 through Guildford for the purchase of replacement fully electric vans. One of the conditions of the grant is that the vehicles must be used in the area, specifically on the A3 through Guildford, for up to 2 years from time of delivery to prevent organisations obtaining a discounted electric van and using them elsewhere in the country. (If they are found to be in breach of the conditions then the value of the grant is able to be recouped.) Therefore a telematic system is required to prove that the vehicles are being used on the A3 and making the required minimum number of journeys on the affected stretch of road.
