Description
East Sussex County Council are about to commence construction of the second phase of the Newhaven Port Access Road (NPAR), at Newhaven Port, East Sussex. Badgers are present on site and due to seasonal constraints it is necessary to commence translocation activities ahead of main construction starting. A badger survey for the southern section of the NPAR was undertaken in September 2016. The survey identified a main badger sett (located within the Pargut Bank) that is situated on the proposed NPAR route alignment. The development proposal would therefore necessitate the closure of the sett, under a sett interference licence issued by Natural England. The closure of the Sett would require the provision of an artificial sett to accommodate excluded badgers. The tender should cover the following items, but please note that this is a "design and build" project where the commissioned contractor will be required to dismantle the old sett and build the new artificial sett, as well as provide ecological services to update the previous survey, undertake a bait marking exercise and apply for a Natural England licence to close the sett.
