Description
Background & Objectives to the Project John Rankin Schools require a school meal service that provides healthy balanced meal options. We believe that there is a link between a healthy diet and the ability to learn effectively, and therefore, we require this important element of the school day to benefit our pupils as much as possible. We want every child or parent to be able to choose, and be provided with, their preferred meal. We also want every child to enjoy their meal in a well prepared and safe dining area. We understand the school has a responsibility to promote and encourage healthy eating and we require a caterer to work with the school on developing this further. It is very important that the service delivers both value for money as well as high standards in procurement, production and customer care. The school is split over three sites, an infant, junior and nursery school. It is only the junior school that has a working kitchen. The infant school has a hot servery and a dishwasher. Food is cooked at the junior school and transported to the nursery and infant school for service. The food quality at the infant and nursery needs to be improved as it continues cooking during the transportation process and quality of the meal declines. Contractors are invited to visit the School and catering facilities to find out more, and are referred to the school's Ofsted Report (available online), and our website: www.jrs.w-berks.sch.uk Number of Pupils on Roll: 663 Number of Free School Meals: 56 Number of UIFSM: 255 Current Average Weekly Uptake: 816 Current Meal Price: £2.35
