Description
Public health concerns have been raised as members of the public have breached atrium barriers at various Heathrow locations, and in some instances resulted in suicide. The aim of these works is to introduce anti-suicide and anti-vandalism measures to deter members of the public breaching barriers in the following locations by adding an extra measure or upgrading the existing barriers: Terminal 2 Entrance & Departure Bridge at Level 5, Train link and Terminal 5 at Level 5, Train link. The scope covers the design of the balustrade enhancements for the Heathrow Terminals T2 and T5 at level 5 only. The design is required to confirm that the existing balustrade system, and structural support has sufficient capacity to support the additional load due to the required changes or employing an extra measure of prevention, where discussed in scope definition report such as arising from the proposed height of the barriers increasing to 2 meters, which may be used as an alternative means to prevent climbing on the balustrade or removing of the balustrade top rails.
