Description

Background The way learners access education is changing and increasingly incorporates learning from third-party websites and systems, not just those provided to them via HEE's own platforms and systems. However, finding the best and most appropriate resources can be difficult and as such personalised messaging to motivate learners has been a proven technique. Research conducted by HEE with the University of Leeds explored the use of personalised nudges for learner motivation in healthcare, aiming to better support and motivate NHS staff when using e-learning resources. As part of the study two surveys were conducted with medical students at the University of Leeds. The initial results of using text-derived user characteristics for personalising nudges were promising, and the natural next step is to conduct a survey with staff at an NHS Trust, first analysing their personality and thinking styles from text samples using natural language processing and machine learning algorithms, then showing differing motivational messages to the learner. Scope of Contract We are seeking a higher education partner and/or SME in collaboration with a higher education partner to work with us and scale this work up so that we can test different motivational techniques with learners in an NHS workplace setting.
