Description
Roudsea Woods and Mosses (South and North Bogs) have had around 150ha of tree scrub and rhododendron removed from the damaged lowland raised bog surface over the last four years. This has been followed up with works to bring the water table to the surface. Water is now being held at or near ground level for most of the year which has provided the conditions for peat forming Sphagnum moss and other plants to re-colonise and to start spreading. The majority of the former 120has of rhododendron has been drowned out by the rewetting works, but some has survived on the peat bunds (that were constructed to bring the water table to the surface). This requires controlling/eradicating or it will rapidly re-colonise and spread undoing the work that has been achieved to date.
