Description
Inception and scoping • Up to five scoping interviews • Rapid review of programme documentation • Design of evaluation framework to guide evaluation activity Survey of potential trainees • A survey to assess awareness and understanding of the scheme with those registered on the Get into Teaching (GiT) or UCAS Media who have expressed an interest in teacher training in the eligible subjects in September 2018. Survey of trainees • A survey to assess awareness and understanding of the scheme with teacher trainees, using sample from the Database of Qualified Teachers (DQT) in eligible subjects. Survey of teachers who have expressed an interest in the scheme • A survey to assess awareness and understanding of the scheme with teachers who have completed the Department's form expressing an interest in the scheme prior to its launch. This will include an assessment of how many teachers who have completed the form are eligible. Survey of qualified teachers in pilot areas • A survey to assess awareness and understanding of, and intention to participate in, the scheme with teachers teaching eligible subjects. The survey will be disseminated to all 474 secondary schools in the Pilot areas. Survey of qualified teachers in non-pilot areas • A survey will be sent to teachers teaching eligible subjects in 10 areas adjacent to the pilot areas. This survey will capture awareness and understanding, and the influence of the scheme on neighbouring areas (for example, in terms of teacher mobility). The survey will be disseminated to all secondary schools in the agreed non-pilot areas, asking them to send to teachers of relevant subjects. School leaders • Telephone depth interviews with schools leaders. The purpose is to understand how the scheme is being understood and received; whether or not it is influencing recruitment and retention rates and how the scheme could be improved. Qualitative interviews • Telephone depth interviews will be undertaken with Get into Teaching registrants, trainees, eligible teachers who are participating and eligible teachers who are not participating. The sample for each group will be developed from re-contact details collected through the online surveys with the groups. Analysis • Ongoing analysis of quantitative data captured through surveys, including descriptive, inferential and multivariate statistical analysis and presentation of data. • Ongoing analysis of qualitative data analysis captured through depth interviews including construction of a coding frame in Nvivo software. • The DfE will be conducting internal analysis of quantitative data used to assess the impact on recruitment and retention, and we will use these findings as part of our analysis in the annual reports. Expressions of interest are sought to conduct an evaluation of the phased bursaries for new maths teachers. Full details are provided in the attached expression of interest.
