Description
Gwent Police are looking to appoint a supplier to provide veterinary services to the Dog Section. The aim of this Contract is to procure Veterinary Services on behalf of Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent. Gwent Police Dog Section operate throughout Gwent, with a central base in Mamhilad and the Police dogs are used in a variety of functions, including searching for wanted/missing persons, stolen property, human remains detection, hill search and rescue as well as assisting with explosive or drug detection or supporting firearms officers. Gwent Police Dog Section has approximately 25 dogs trained in general purpose and specialist functions. German Shepherd dogs carry out general purpose duties whilst Labradors and Springer Spaniels use their aptitude to search for and locate either drugs or explosives. Tenderers should note that Police dogs require special handling owing to their rigorous training.
