Description
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) is commissioning a project to evaluate the effectiveness and economic impact of UK and Western IT services and software sanctions on Russia. The primary objective is to assess how and to what extent UK-imposed IT Consultancy and Design and Sectoral software and technology sanctions have degraded the Russia economy or capability and prevented the circumvention of similar sanctions by UK allies, such as the US and EU. The project will identify the most impacted software and IT services categories, explore the feasibility of quantifying economic losses and strategic effects due to reduced access to UK and Western-origin software and IT services, and evaluate the effectiveness of enforcement mechanisms. Given the sanctions are designed in part to prevent the circumvention of UK allies' sanctions, the project should also quantify the effect of those equivalent sanctions
