Description
Auskerry Lighthouse is situated on the small Island of the same name to north west of mainland Orkney. Built in 1866 by David and Thomas Stevenson, the light has a single white flashing character every 20 seconds giving a nautical range of 18 miles. The lighthouse tower, which is 34 meters high, is adjoined to a privately owned dwelling. A masonry wall surrounds the perimeter of the lighthouse station. Lighthouse Maintenance and Redecoration works planned start date is 4th April 2023 and completion date of 3rd October 2023. Works consist of establishing welfare facilities, arrange all plant, equipment and materials to be delivered to site, set up site and ensure workplace is secure, carry out all external refurbishment and redecoration works, carry out all internal refurbishment and redecoration works, remove existing fuel tank and replace with new, install all internal safety gates and new handrails as required, prepare all rubbish, plant and equipment to be cleared and assist as required during site clearance, demobilise site.
