Description
Project is to deliver Defra Technical Capability Model (DTCM) Capability. Connectivity > Network Foundation Services > File Transfer > Secure File Transfer Service, (SFTP). Currently there are numerous approaches to SFTP across the Defra family with individual solutions in place for different systems and organisations, many of which are no longer fit for purpose or are approaching end of life. They range from automated hosted solutions to manual transfers between systems that rely on members of DDTS extracting data from one system and uploading to another. There is an ever increasing business demand for a standard DDTS solution, mitigating against risk of the business creation of grey IT, duplicated costs and in some cases insecure solutions. Defra's DDTS architecture team identified the need for a base solution to be implemented, initially to meet the business needs for services shortly going out of support and, in the longer term, to provide a secure means of transferring files between any of the arm's length bodies supported by Defra and, where appropriate, the external organisations that they deal with. The following features have been identified for the service to support: - Deliver a shared, cloud-based, service that will provide a secure means of transferring files between recognised exchange partners, preserving the confidentiality, integrity and availability of transmitted information. - Provide an automation mechanism that will enable files to be transferred end-to-end without human intervention. - Enable file transfers to be prioritised according to business need. - Deliver controlled access to the service (who can transfer what types of file to whom). - On-boarding mechanism for new clients of the service, and to set up new types of file transfer between existing and new clients. - Service wrapper to maintain & support the user base, monitor performance & availability of the service, taking action when disrupted.
