Description
Wigan Council's Children Services are adopting the Family Safeguarding Model which will, work together, with the whole family, to keep more children safe at home with their families, supporting them to make and sustain positive change. Family Safeguarding takes a multi-disciplinary approach to working with children and families including Social Workers, Children and Family Practitioners, working alongside specialist adult workers including Adult Recovery Workers, Domestic Abuse Practitioners, Domestic Abuse officers and Mental Health Practitioners to provide help and support in relation to known issues associated with the reasons and triggers for child safeguarding concerns - parental domestic abuse, substance misuse and mental ill health issues. In Wigan the Mental Health Workers will be a Commissioned Service. The Mental Health Workers will undertake mental health screening and needs assessment to ascertain the appropriate intervention and provide the appropriate interventions needed as part of a programme of ongoing support for the individual signposting service users to relevant services or refer within Family Safeguarding Service.
