Description
The Hackney Youth Justice and Sexual and Reproductive Health Nurse Service is a collaborative initiative commissioned by the London Borough of Hackney, provided by Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, combining two key nursing roles for vulnerable young people in the City of London and the London Borough of Hackney. The Youth Justice Nurse (YJN) Service is embedded within Hackney’s multi-agency Youth Justice Service to conduct comprehensive health assessments for children and young people aged 10-19 in contact with the criminal justice system, aiming to identify and address their physical, emotional, and mental health needs to mitigate how unmet health needs contribute to offending behaviour. Simultaneously, the Sexual and Reproductive Health Nurse (SRHN) Service provides nurse-led, clinical SRH in-reach and outreach for young residents aged 11–18 (up to 24 with particular vulnerabilities), increasing access to advice, signposting, and interventions such as pregnancy testing, STI testing, and emergency contraception provision to reduce health inequalities.
