Description

TfGM were having fire alarm issues at two of its park and ride locations. After looking at the options available to provide a solution, it was proposed by fire consultants that a linear heat detection system shall be installed for fire detection to replace the manual call points in the car parks. The system is used is a Category L5 system in accordance with BS5839:2017 and has been agreed with the local authority's building control team together with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service as suitable for implementation. TfGM have a supplier that provides services to its various fire alarm systems and it was decided, due to the timeliness of these requirements and due to the estimated value of the works being below threshold, to direct award this contract to that supplier. Before doing so, a number of other suppliers were looked at (for benchmarking purposes and to ensure value for money was being obtained) and the solution put forward by the this supplier was found to be the best option available, thus confirming the decision to direct award.
