Description
Daventry District Council (DDC) is a Burial Authority by virtue of s214 (1) of the Local Government Act 1972. DDC provides and manages its cemetery at Welford Road Daventry Northamptonshire under the provisions of the Local Authorities' Cemeteries Order 1977. The current cemetery in Welford Road, Daventry, was opened in the 1950's but is now nearing capacity, so as a matter of urgency DDC are seeking a site for a new cemetery. Some eighteen possible sites have initially been identified by officers, but these have now been reduced to twelve with some five leading sites. The elimination of potential sites was on the basis of: Lack of capacity for future expansion to provide a minimum of 50 years use Geological problems Relative remoteness from the town. Sites should ideally be within the Town Parish or if not, adjacent to the boundary. The surviving sites have been appraised on the basis of their size, DDA and Highway accessibility, ground and surface water sensitivity, underlying geology, planning and land designation. A Scoring system was devised and some five sites have been prioritised as a result. The Employer is undertaking a Public Consultation exercise in order to ascertain the preferences of the public in respect of location, with the consultation process caveated with the fact that the delivery of any particular site cannot be guaranteed.
