Description
Merrick will progress the design of building 950 and 951, taking account of the proposed future use of the Stewart Stockman Building and ongoing engagement with the Local Planning Authority. The design will define building massing, location and features such as indicative chimneystacks, energy centres etc. The production of a Strategic Basis of Design ("BOD") will be used to develop client knowledge, further inform stakeholders and provide a robust Client Brief for the engagement of Specialist Design Teams and Principle Contractors during 2020/21. This process must include scheduled engagement with APHA and Defra users through the SCAH team and appointed Project Manager. The design of 950 and 951 should respond to the V17 of the User Requirement Brief ("URB"); the author, WSP, will provide ongoing support, interpretation and knowledge-transfer to Merrick where required. Deliverables (due in time to be included and appended to the Client Brief) 1. The development of a BOD up to RIBA 1; this will include, but not be limited to, the following: a. A RIBA 1 schematic design for the proposed in-vivo (950) and in-vitro (951) laboratory facilities, taking account of the proposed future use of Stewart Stockman Building (SSB). b. Review, develop and validate the brief for building 950 (in-vivo), engaging industry-best practice and benchmarking reviews with laboratory planners and other specialists. This includes the ongoing and proposed future use of Coombelands and Grange Livestock Facilities and other supporting functions. This includes (a) internal floor layouts, (b) departmental/function adjacencies, (c) options on stacking arrangements, (d) opportunities for consolidated support functions, (e) review net:gross ratios, (f) assumptions on space allocation and (g) innovation and efficiency opportunities. c. Review, develop and validate the brief for building 951 (in-vitro), taking account of the potential future use(s) of SSB and engaging industry-best practice
