Description
To development of a Proof of Concept system demonstrating the application of blockchain to data integrity. NNL's vision for such a solution is a system whereby an immutable datastore, built upon DLT, can be transmitted with modelling data and contain a secure history of how the data within the companion model has been built on and developed over time. This would include information about the fundamental nuclear data that has been used within the model, and the relevant assumptions and limitations that are inherently built into this. Then, each layer of a model would add information about the assumptions and limitations that have been added at each stage of a model's life, to enable end users of models to take a deep dive into the technical underpinning of a model, and critically evaluate its validity. Achieving widespread adoption across the nuclear industry would mean such a system needs to be able to work without interconnected networks and must place security at its heart to appropriately protect the IP and knowledge of the different layers within a model, whilst still providing confidence that there have been no untoward changes or alterations that invalidate the model.
